Title of report:	Appointments to Outside Bodies – East Sussex Inshore Fisheries
Purpose of report:	To consider the appointments to the East Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority.
RECOMMENDATION: The Governance Committee is recommended to appoint two Councillors to serve on the East Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority as set out in paragraph 1.4 of the report.

1. Supporting Information

1.1       The Governance Committee is responsible for appointing Members to a range of outside bodies whose role has a relationship to a function of the County Council. The appointments are a vital part of the County Council’s working in partnership with voluntary sector bodies, statutory agencies and the public and private sectors.

1.2       At a meeting of the Governance Committee on the 22 April 2025, appointments were made to the East Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority and were based on political proportionality with two places being allocated to the Conservative group, and one to the Liberal Democrat group. The following members were appointed: Councillor Tom Liddiard, Councillor Sam Adeniji, and Councillor Steve Murphy.

1.3       Since the appointments were made, the Conservative representatives, Councillor Adeniji and Councillor Liddiard, have resigned from their appointment to the East Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority. The next meeting of the Authority is Thursday 23 April 2026.

1.4       It is therefore necessary for the Conservative group to nominate two new Councillors in place of Councillors Adeniji and Liddiard. The appointments will be for a term until the date of the annual council meeting in the next Council election year, or (where applicable) the Councillor ceases to be a member of the Council, whichever is sooner, or unless the appointee resigns or is removed before then.

2.         Conclusion and reasons for recommendations

2.1       The Committee is asked to appoint two Councillors to serve on the East Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority as set out in paragraph 1.4 of this report.
